If the unthinkable happens and if a house in Kahite is on fire, this is the BEST CASE SCENARIO of what the Response Time might be; that is, if Mike Klick and Dave Lange, our Kahite Residents that are volunteer firefighters, are BOTH in Kahite at the time of the call.

In the words of Mike Klick...
“By the time we get the call, travel to the Kahite station, get in our turnout gear, drive the engine to your house, set up the hoses and engine to attack the fire, it would be every part of 15 minutes, in a PERFECT world for us to begin our attack. That is, if Dave and I are both here in Kahite at that time. We do not have full-time firefighters manned and ready, waiting at the station.

The situation becomes complicated if that isn’t the case. We would get help from our main station but that would probably be 20 minutes AT BEST because of the distance from the station to Kahite. The same for help from Vonore FD and the other departments in the Battalion. The ladder truck, that we need to fight fire for larger homes in Kahite, would be coming from Notchy Creek VOLUNTEER Fire department which is at least 23 minutes away.

It is difficult to pin down exact response times due to most of the departments being volunteer-based. The stations aren’t manned, and firefighters need to travel to the stations to get the engines to drive to the fire”.
